Set up your weather Mac

Download the manual for your processor. Both manuals include the combined installer, first-start consent, provider accounts, Supabase, free and Pro features, backup, and recovery procedures.

No weather station? You can still use Weather Wizard.

You don’t need to own a weather station. Use a supported nearby station for local readings, subject to that provider’s access requirements. Free has no time limit. Free keeps the built-in nearby-station and local-weather feed. Adding your own additional provider accounts or API keys—including OpenWeather—and custom radar or forecast sites requires Pro, even if you don’t own a station. Provider accounts, API keys, and separate service fees may still be required.

The one-time 30-day Pro trial is for eligible station owners. Nearby/public-station users can continue with Free or purchase Pro.

Weather Wizard for Intel

Requires macOS 15 Sequoia or later. Give a compatible older Mac a new role as a weather station display, even as it retires from everyday use.

Final Intel revision. No further Intel revisions are planned. Future Weather Wizard development will focus on Apple silicon.

Installation and first start

  1. Before changing an existing installation, make and verify an independent backup of your weather history. Keep a copy on a separate drive.
  2. Check Apple menu → About This Mac. Apple silicon requires macOS 14 Sonoma or later; Intel requires macOS 15 Sequoia or later.
  3. When the release is available, open the combined installer, choose the correct processor edition, and follow its destination and administrator-authorization prompts. It checks compatibility and protects an existing app at the destination.
  4. Read the data-loss notice after processor selection. Choose Yes to accept and continue, or No to stop. Intel has a second Yes/No notice explaining that this is the final Intel revision.
  5. At first app start, read and answer the notices again, then complete setup. Installer acceptance does not automatically accept the app notices. No quits the app.

You are responsible for maintaining and verifying backups. Backup and cloud-sync features do not guarantee recovery. The exact data-loss notice and consent steps appear on page 7 of each manual.

Provider accounts and API keys

An Application Programming Interface (API) key lets the app request data from a provider. Create your own account and follow that provider’s current access requirements. Connecting additional provider accounts or API keys—including OpenWeather—and adding custom radar or forecast sites requires Pro in Weather Wizard. A provider’s free data plan does not unlock Pro app features. Free keeps the built-in nearby-station and local-weather feed.

Follow the manual’s Supabase setup and account-isolation instructions. Use only the client credentials specified for the app; never enter a service-role secret into a client field. Cloud sync is separate from an independent backup.

Backup before you change anything

  1. Use the app’s Manual Backup action and choose a folder on an independent drive. Check that the backup file was created and record its date.
  2. Open Settings to configure scheduled backups and select the backup destination. The app needs access to that location when a scheduled backup runs.
  3. Before a restore, migration, cleanup, or cloud push/pull, make another manual backup. Keep the original until you verify the recovered station history.
  4. Follow pages 41–43 of your edition’s manual for the exact backup, restore, and moving-to-another-Mac procedures.
